Shipping Policy
The following information is for guidance.
Overview of buyer process:-
Bid - Receive invoice - request shipping - receive updated invoice - check shipping address and quote - pay, Time allowed maximum 5 working days of auction ending.
Overview of Spicers shipping process:-
Invoices emailed - requests for shipping commence - appraise each request - reply with updated invoice or further information - proceed to pack goods - check invoices paid - register parcel for Royal Mail Collection - communicate tracking information - hand over to Royal Mail.
- Hours of service:- Monday to Friday 9.00 to 15.00. Requests are not processed on Saturdays and Sundays. The business is closed on Sundays and bank holidays.
- Pricing:- Prices start from £15 plus VAT for a large letter.
- Method: Royal Mail Special Delivery before 1pm.
- Process:- Invoices emailed to buyers, shipping requested via link, email, phone, shipping cost added, invoice updated and emailed, full payment received, goods packed, goods logged with Royal Mail, parcel collected by Royal Mail, 24 hour delivery to designated address.
- Timescale:- Instruction to quote to customer delivered, aim within five working days.

- We are pleased to offer a reliable postage and packing service we are proud of.
- Some items are restricted and cannot be shipped using our service by Royal Mail
- Courier recommendations are available on request.
- Ask for a condition report on the lot/s you are interested in before you bid. Auction terms are different to retail.
- Every postage request is assessed individually against, quantity of lots, invoice value, materials required, deliverable by Royal Mail.
- Postage to addresses outside the UK may carry restrictions, which we have to follow.
- Buyers may contract their own courier for collection.
- Buyers may send us post paid packing materials, labels and instructions.
- Communication is important until your goods have arrived as expected.
- Postage quotes must be requested and goods paid for within Five days of the auction ending.
Details:-
- Auction ends, invoices are emailed to all buyers with a link to pay by registered card or bank transfer.
- The end of auction invoice includes a link to request a postage quote as well as our contact details.
- The request appears on our back office system in order of time the request was placed.
- Postage team assembles all requests and works through each to provide a quote. This may involve a quick appraisal for single small items through to a 'rough pack' to assess the weight and size of packaging materials required.
- Follow up emails with postage quote added to an updated invoice sent.
- Payment against updated invoice received. Goods are packed carefully and safely by one of the team.
- Goods are registered for collection with Royal Mail and a tracking number noted and emailed to buyers.
- Next day - packages are collected by Royal Mail and tracking number becomes active.
- Next step - packages are delivered to addressee, who signs for receipt of goods, checks contents within 24 hours.
- All invoices are appraised and assessed for suitability for shipping via Royal Mail. If this isn't an option due to size, weight, cost, contents or destination, one of the team will advise by email.
- Other options available:-
- Wrap and pack - buyer arranges their chosen courier, Spicers pack securely, weigh, measure, secure, communicates dimensions to buyer, set parcel aside for collection by designated courier on day/time as advised by buyer. Cost guide is £12 plus VAT per lot listed on the invoice.
- Packing and collection couriers - these couriers charge the buyer to collect contents of the invoice, protect them for transit, remove from Spicers and transport to packing and shipping facility, communicate with buyer, advise Spicers of customer information, collection date and time. Buyer pays the courier for the service.
Shipping restricted items
If in doubt ask! Spicers cannot post the following by Royal Mail or any of it's associate companies:-
Knives or bladed items, Alcohol, Firearms or weapons, Fragile items, large furniture, white goods, motorcycles, vehicles, engines.
Some countries have a wider list of restrictions than others.
Some couriers will ship by taking the risk away, such as removing mercury, offering more secure packing of 'weapons'. They will charge additional fees for this.
Some couriers will ship pricing for value and size/weight specifically, such as sculptures, paintings or alcohol.
By communication, prompt payment and clearly describing contents, Spicers postage team will assist every step of the way and work with buyers to give accurate information so the most appropriate courier can be appointed to complete the whole transaction process.
Finally:- We don't want to mention it but........ not paying and not communicating isn't an option, You registered, you bid, you bought, you were notified.
All parts of the transaction process need to be agreed and goods paid for within 5 working days of the auction ending. We will try many ways to contact you, primarily by email but if necessary, reminders will be sent by phone calls, text and WhatsApp messages.
Not responding to our messages or meeting our terms and conditions will result in a block on your account across bidding platforms not just with Spicers.

ALL LOTS ARE HELD IN GOOLE unless otherwise specified for an off site auction.
Collect or appoint transport within 3 working days of the auction closing or discuss storage our storage charges within 48 hours of transaction completion, we have limited storage, extended storage incurs costs.
