1957 James Colonel, 225cc. Registration number 288 UYU (non transferrable). Frame number 56 K12 737. Engine number 799A 9440.
Sold with the V5C, dating certificate, R.F. 60, various photographs and a copy of the instruction book.
In 1951 James became part of the Associated Motor Cycles group, joining Francis-Barnett. Villiers engines were used in the range that include the 125cc Cadet, 200cc Captain and the range topping 225cc Colonel. The models featured the newly developed rubber-suspended telescopic front fork, while plunger rear suspension was available on De Luxe versions that also featured battery electrics. The Colonel ran on into 1957 before being discontinued.
UYU has had its history traced back to the first registration as CMW 666 in 1957 where it was retailed by the Easters dealership, by 1964 it was with Roger Brown of Malmesbury and it then had several quick owners ending up with HH.M. Chesterman Motorcyles in 1965. By 2016 it was with Christopher Phillips who restored it and had it re-registered 288 UYU (the original number is not in use any more). Our vendor bought it in August 2025 in need of some TLC which he has lavished on it. Unfortunately he prefers riding his modern bike so this has stayed in the garage. It is now in very good order and needs a new owner who will use it.
