1979 MG Midget 1500. Registration number NTU 897V. Chassis number GAN6-220272G. Engine number unknown.

The MG Midget was based upon the successful Austin Healey (Frog Eye) Sprite but with significant body changes and similar Sprite versions continued alongside to 1971. During it’s life significant changes occurred including engine capacities rising from 948cc to 1493cc.
The ‘Rubber Bumpers’ was well known as a change needed for the changing regulations in the US market, but this also drove the change of engine and gearbox. Unfortunately, the choice was one guaranteed to generate controversy, as it was the Triumph 1493cc unit that was fitted to the Midgets market rival, the Spitfire, and Dolomite saloons. This was partly due to the need to have an engine that complied with US regulations and still produce enough power to be respectable.
NTU has history going back to 1995 was it was in the custodianship of Rod Weston who commissioned East Anglian Sportscars to fully restore the car. This included a full body make over and two pack respray, the engine was replaced with a reconditioned unit; there is a very detailed list of the parts and works undertaken. In the early 2000's it was with Kevin Peschke, who again, kept very detailed receipts for works, including a new hood and suspension. In 2016 he sold it to our vendor as a birthday present for his wife (she had one before children!). They are now at an age when getting in and out is not as easy so drove it some 40 miles to our saleroom.
