As soon as this sale was announced, it was evident that it had captured railwayana interest from far and wide, with queries and registrations regarding the upcoming catalogue and auction being received locally, nationally and global in unprecedented numbers.

A true reflection of this interest was evident at both of the viewing days and of course the sale day itself. Friday morning saw people queueing from 8.30am and once our doors were open, record numbers of people entered the auction room. Around 400 people attended the sale in person and hundreds more registered online from locations as far as Monaco, Tel Aviv and Europe.

As the saleroom began to buzz with anticipation of the sale, 10am arrived and it was time for Lot 1 to be auctioned, a vintage enamel sign for Nectar Tea estimated between £40-£60, selling for £300. This pace continued through all of the enamel signs, with the Spratts Cat Food sign reaching an impressive £900.

Swiftly moving through to accessories and other collectables, Lot 70, four contemporary Art Deco ceiling lamps that used to hang in Bridlington Buffet rooms surprised the room by reaching over ten times the higher estimate and selling for £1,150!

From engine plates and shed plates, to watering cans and live steam locos, the auction continued to surprise the local and global purchasers over the next four hours.

This unique sale outshone expectations from the very beginning. In the auctioneers 35 year long career, this was only his second “white glove” sale, meaning that one hundred percent of the lots sold, in turn resulting in an impressive final sale total of just under £51,744 (all prices include buyer’s premium)

We would like to thank all who came and got involved in any form towards the sale, your excitement and your passion for all things railway made our day, and we hope that you enjoyed yours!
