Ben Hur by Caille Brothers of Detroit, c. 1908/10, oak case, 59 x 42 x 26cm.
These slot machines were highly sought after in this period, because they were small in size and could therefore be hidden away behind the counter. By inserting a coin into one of the four coloured inserts, one could rotate the handle. The large wheel started turning and if the colour matched, you had a prize.
Condition report, in need of a good clean but the mechanism appears to be working the wheel spins when you pull the lever, the veneer on the front is lifting a bit, it was in a wharehouse and our saleroom is warm so it might have affected the old veneer glue, otherwise in good original condition
