A Japanese set of Kyoto Art Museum Encyclopaedias; 12 Volumes, bound in cloth and housed in a hand-tied case; entitled Kyoto Bijutsu Taikan - Survey of the Arts in Kyoto, to include: Volume 1 - Architecture, Volume 2 - Garden, Volume 3 - Tea Room, Volume 4 - Painting, Volume 5 - Painting, Volume 6 - Sculpture, Volume 7 - Under Engraving, Volume 8 - Portrait, Volume 9 - Stone Art, Volume 10 - Crafts, Volume 11 - Handwritten Documents, Volume 12 - Historical Temples and Shrines. Published, April 1933 to February 1934 (Showa Era, Japan) by Toho Shoin, Tokyo and limited to 500 copies. Volume 12 includes a copy of the original application form that would be sent to the publisher in return for a copy of the Encyclopaedia.

c.1957/8 Manx Norton 40M, 349cc. Registration number, not road registered. Frame number M40 1008. Engine number SM46 40M 87332. There is no paperwork with this machine. While in recent times the Commando was arguably the firm's most charismatic machine there's no doubt, historically, that the Manx will be Norton's best-remembered model. The Manx was developed to win the Isle of Man TT from single overhead cam international racers by Norton racing team engineer Joe Craig. The double overhead cam configuration was developed in 1937 and after many problems perfected one year later. The Manx was delayed by the outbreak of World War II but reemerged for the 1946 Manx Grand Prix. The motorcycle was upgraded with new telescopic forks and in 1948 gained twin leading shoe brakes. In 1950 the innovative Featherbed frame was developed, giving the Manx a significant competitive advantage through a low centre of gravity and short wheelbase that was perfectly suited the challenging island TT course. The all-welded, tubular featherbed frame was light and trim, without the usual forgings that added unnecessary weight. In 1950, the featherbed Manx recorded a double hat-trick of podium positions at the TT. Norton withdrew from the TT in 1954 but the Manx remained popular with privateer's for many years to come in 30M (500cc) or 40M (350cc) guise. This example was raced by Richard (Dick) Carr throughout the North East, including Olivers Mount from at least 2008 (see scrutineering stickers). In 2017 our deceased vendor purchased it and raced it at Rockanje Classic Races, claiming a 2nd in 2018. Ready to race again there is a video of the bike running.

A WWI I Turkish official’s “Enveriye” award dagger, the 8” blade impressed on one side with the “shahada” Islamic decoration of faith, and on the other side with the tughra mark of Sultan Mehmed V, star and crescent, Arabic date, serial number 4148, the hilt and sheath embossed with brass panel pattern, the sheath with flat pierced bar for suspension which is also stamped with the serial number. The “Enveriye” dagger was an honorary award bestowed by the Turkish War Minister Enver Pasha on deserving Turkish officers and German officers serving with the Turkish army between 1914 and 1918, and which approximately 5000 were produced. Due to the nature of these items, we politely remind buyers of the need to satisfy themselves as to the condition / originality of all lots prior to bidding irrespective of any description. John Gowerth, Oxford, an ebonised striking bracket clock, circa 1700, 7-inch square brass dial with a Roman numeral silvered chapter ring, matted dial centre with winding holes, date aperture, floral spandrels, strike/non strike selection above 12 and signed John Gowerth and Oxford below 12, case with a brass carrying handle, side pierced brass panels, with pull repeat cord to the right hand side, bracket feet, four pillar twin fusee movement, hour rack striking on a bell, pull quarter repeat mechanism working, movement backplate elaborately engraved throughout with floral decoration and numbered 467, key, 46cm with handle raised. Working when catalogued. Brian Loames records John Goweth, Oxford, born 1669 as does G.H. Baillie, Brittain records John Gowerth, Oxford, c.1701.
