Ariel HS Scrambler Gordon Blakeway works replica, 498cc. Registration number not registered. Frame number not found. Engine number CN-469.
The HS (Hunter Scrambler) was produced between 1954-1958, they were intended to compete against BSA Gold Stars on the track.
The HS had sportier cams, stronger valve springs, higher compression and other trick features giving approximately 34HP at 6,000RPM
Born in Stockton-on-Tees, in 1935, Gordon Blakeway was one of that rare breed of true motorcycling all-rounders – a man who was equally at home keeping his feet firmly on the pegs while cleaning a tricky section in the Scottish Highlands, winning gold medals in the International Six Days Trial (ISDT) or riding to victory at a championship scramble. The Ariel, Triumph and AMC works rider competed between 1952 and the end of 1966 team-mates Sammy Miller, Ron Langston, Ken Heanes, John Giles and Roy Peplow.
This machine has been built to replicate his Works HS Scrambler, the frame is a Tony Burgess to original spec in 531 tube and brazed, the engine was built by John Budgen with a steel flywheel, front and rear full width wheel hubs, stainless rims and spokes, it has the correct scrambles oil tank and large air box.
It has been occasionally fired up and ridden around our vendors garden.
