British Art Medal Society, John Lobban, Homage to Collectors, 1990, bronze, 69 of 85, cast by Tallix Morris Singer and Royal Mint, 90 mm.
Lobban stated 'The medal is in honour of those who support medallists - the collectors. On the obverse, the impulse-buying collector is represented by a magpie who has picked up something way beyond his means. His opposite, the collector who, having bought carefully for investment, buries his treasure for safety, is represented by the squirrel. The reverse shows another aspect of collecting, the sheer joy of the chase.'
