The Steadman Jaguar TS100 is a rare British sportscar that was designed and built by Ottercraft in Cornwall during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. It was never intended to be a replica of the SS100 built by Swallow Sidecars between 1936 and 1940, the company became Jaguar at this point. It was produced as an exclusive hand-built aluminium bodied turnkey sportscar in its own right, using more modern mechanical parts and build methods.
The lower chassis sub-assembly reflects the standard twin rail design of the 1930s, with cross bracing added to improve tortional stiffness. The upper subassembly is constructed using both round & square section tubing, as opposed to a wooden ash frame. This provide a strong, secure passenger cell to which the aluminium bodywork is attached and is also fitted with a heavy aluminium firewall between the engine bay and the cockpit. The cars were fitted with various Jaguar XJ6 engines, with manual or automatic gearboxes. Similarly, the front and rear suspension, brakes and steering are also taken from the Jaguar XJ6. Only 28 Steadman TS100’s were officially built before the bank foreclosed the company in 1991, although a few have been built from the spares that evaded the crusher when the administrators were called.
UP 9213 is the 7th built, number 0121, and used a 3.4 XJ registration number DCW 869S as its donor. Chassis 0118 - 0123 were sold to Cohen Brothers of Alphanumeric in London on the 20th December 1988 as rolling chassis to be completed by them; they had different levels of finish. 0121 is detailed in the works book as being unpainted, with no engine, on slave wheels, manual gearbox and untrimmed. It was finished with a full alloy body, narrow wheels/tyres than the normal ones, with a different front apron, full tool lit to the boot and hood.
Its early life is, at present, unknown, but in 2007 it was bought by David Clack of Chichester and our vendor bought it from his agent in Lancashire in 2008. It has DVLA MOT history from 2006 at 6,526 miles, through to 2012 at 8,643 miles. It was then put on SORN due to our vendors hip issues. Today the mileage is 8,667. It was driven to the saleroom some 30 odd miles and performed very well.
