c.1961 BSA C15S Scrambler, 250cc. Registration number not registered. Frame number C15S 2551. Engine number C15C 1639.

The BSA C15S was the scrambler (motocross) competition version of the 250 cc Star produced between 1959 and 1965. As with the trials model, the C15S saved the weight of a battery through an 'energy transfer' electrical system which was notoriously unreliable. The problem was that the timing and points gap required far too much careful setting for a rugged competition motorcycle. The scrambler C15 shared the same frame as the trials (designated with a C suffix), had a larger exhaust valve, higher compression ratio and modified camshaft for more power. It was unsilenced and had special tyres and strengthened fork springs with rubber fork gaiters to protect the seals.
This example uses a 1961 frame with a 1964/5 engine and has recently been built by our serial restorer vendor. He states that the frame is an original competition one with the correct rear wheel with bolt on sprocket, and half width 7" front brake, the alloy tank is an original one. The only new parts are the mudguards, handle bars, fork shrouds, number boards and the seat. The engine has been overhauled with a scrambles camshaft and side case that allows easy access to the clutch. It has the correct scrambles gearbox.
It has recently had an Electrex World Digital Ignition alternator kit and clutch cable fitted
There is no oil in it so will need commissioning before use.
There is no paperwork with the bike.
