The 500T was Norton’s answer to the trials successes of its rivals AMC and Royal Enfield. Built from a mixture of ES2 and 16H parts, the large and heavy original design was refined in 1949 with a shorter wheelbase and much lighter components. Considerable competition success followed and this model remains much rarer than trails bikes of the same era.
LFD was owned by William Bennet of Chipping Sodbury in 1983 and he successfully applied to the DofT and had its original registration number returned. Our vendor bought it as a disassembled but complete machine in 1989 and set about its restoration. It still has its original BTH TT magneto and kick start lever.
Since completion it has been dry stored and will need commissioning before use.
