Signed by Koestler at top of title page. With two typescript poems signed Geo Orwell. The poems are undated, unpublished, not good and on poor quality paper.
Orwell and Koestler were friends and Koestler would have known Orwell as George, not Eric Blair.
The poet Ruth Pitter remembers reading early manuscripts: 'How we cruel girls laughed. … He
wrote like a cow with a musket' (ODNB)
Provenance
The vendor’s father, another Hungarian, was an acquaintance of Koestler. This book and the
poems were a gift from Koestler to him according to family lore.
