A rare Georgian 1804 Pattern naval cutlass by Thomas Gill
circa 1808-10, straight, unfullered 74cm single edged blade marked above the hilt with the Royal crown and GR cipher, the spine stamped I. Gill, steel figure-of-eight hilt, one-piece ribbed and grooved steel grip.
The spine of the blade is marked, I. GILL, dating it to the passing of the Birmingham firm of Thomas Gill in 1801 to his sons Thomas, James and John (the I here serving for a J.)
