1936 Thorneycroft Motor Cruiser, Blue Waters.
Length 38 foot, beam 9 foot 6 in, draft 3 foot 3 in, air draft 8 foot 6 in. There is a video of her motoring available.
Construction: Pitch pine on oak with teak decks, white with varnished decks.
Internal: The boat has a wheelhouse with steering position to port and navigation station to starboard. Going aft, the heads (with Baby Blake, hand basin and shower) is to starboard, opposite which is the galley. This provides a stainless steel Taylor's pressurised spirit cooker, Electrolux fridge, sink (with pressurised hot - from calorifier or an immersion heater - and cold), plus cupboards and drawers. Aft again, there is a fitted sideboard/desk to port, opposite which is a Taylor's spirit and diesel space heater. Aft again, there are two full-length settee berths (convert into a double berth) and a drop-leaf removable table (with bottle-store). There is access to the vessel's aft deck. Going forward from the wheelhouse, double doors lead into the forward cabin, which has two full-sized single berths (can be converted to a double), two hanging lockers, a glazed, opening, skylight and access to the chain locker. Headroom throughout the boat is good, being a little over 6'. The interior woodwork is teak or mahogany and the upholstery is in a fawn/red and blue check material. Navigation equipment includes: JRC radar 3000, Garmin 120 GPS interfaced to a Yeoman plotter, Navico autopilot, Lowrance depth sounder, Seafarer echosounder, Navtex information centre, Stowe speed and distance log, Kent Clearscreen, Sailor RT2048 VHF, forward seeking sonar, Sestrel compass, horn, vintage brass searchlight, and clock and barometer. External: The boat has galvanised stanchions plus teak handrails, a teak laid deck, navigation mast, plus a varnished pram dinghy with oars, shorepower connection, there are two starting batteries and one leisure plus solar power with inverter, there is a "get me home" or staysail on the mast.
In 2011 the boat was subject of considerable refurbishment including some new planking, new decks, engine rebuild, rewiring and re-plumbing (photographic records of the work being carried out). She has had her stem post, some planking and frames replaced. She would benefit from being repainted and varnished. Both engines run well although one gearbox needs slight attention, the parts needed are with the vessel.
There is a large history folder with her, including receipts for works undertaken and a Thorneycroft book. She has motored the East and canals for many years and is rumoured to be a Dunkirk "Little Boat" but this needs further investigation.
