1961 BSA A10 to Super Road Rocket Specification, 646 cc. Registration number OSJ 819. Frame number DA10 8964. Engine number GA7 17930.
A new 650cc twin joined BSA's 500cc A7 model in 1949, the latter's engine being revised along the lines of the new design at the same time. The existing parallel twin architecture was retained for the new A10, with 360-degree crankshaft and single camshaft at the rear of the cylinder block, as was the four-speed gearbox bolted directly to the crankcase in a form of semi-unit construction. Like the A7, the A10 was available with either a rigid frame or plunger rear suspension. Named 'Golden Flash', the new 650 was strikingly finished in pale beige metallic. Ever since the model's introduction enthusiasts have commonly referred to the touring A10 as the 'Golden Flash',
OSJ was owned by Mr Gill of York in 1980 when it underwent an engine rebuild; by 1988 it was with Mr Reynolds again of York and by 1998 Mr Bentley of Scarborough was the owner, he had it serviced with a mileage of 28,346, followed by engine work in 2000.
In 1992 Dave Harding of York commissioned SRM Engineering of Aberystwyth to convert it to Super Road Rocket spec with a full engine and gearbox rebuild, the tinware and frame were stripped and painted at a cost of £2,646. In 2005 Peter Hird of Hull purchased it and has ridden it as part of his stable. He has undertaken necessary servicing and had the tank painted in period correct Road Rocket colours.
Offered for sale as he now finds it too heavy, this very well sorted machine comes with the V5C and receipts for work since 1980.
