c.1948 Sunbeam S7, 500cc, project. Registration number, not registered. Frame number S7 747. Engine S7 285.
Following its 1946 launch Sunbeam's futuristic shaft-drive S7 did not sell in quite the expected volume but, after the modified S7 De Luxe arrived in 1949, sales did indeed improve, possibly assisted by the firm's same-time intro of the more conventional S8. BSA's board of directors, who'd purchased the prestigious brand from AMC during WWII, called a halt to production in 1956. In recent years however Sunbeam's ohc twins have become increasingly popular, undoubtedly helped by the availability of parts and technical support provided by Stewart Engineering, one of the first sole-brand specialists, established in 1960.
This early example will make an interesting project, prospective buyers should satisfy themselves as to the completeness of this project.
