A Japanese sectional Ivory Okimono, carved to depict a man with a basket, unsigned, height 13 cm, another with a man filleting a fish, and a third a man walking (3).
Man with basket shows signs of repair or restoration, his basket has 3 natural stress fractures. The figure appears to have been made in sections and glued together with signs of glue to head/body joint, legs to body and feet to base. Whither this is original of later we cannot say. The walking man figure shows damage to the bottom of his left sleeve and the items carried in each hand appear to be broken/missing. The comments above regarding glue to joints applies here also. The man filleting the fish has a natural crack to the face and back of the head, the tail of the fish appears missing. Both feet have cracks across them, the toe sections on both have the appearance of different material. To the right of his basket is a bottom (smooth surface) which may be the remnants of ? otherwise grubby but in satisfactory condition.
