Marsh, Jones & Cribb, late Kendell & Co., a Victorian rosewood corner shelf, the shaped panels with thumbnail border, brass hooks stamped 1 1/4, 550, makers label hand written No. 2024, Workman's name Pearson.
Marsh, Jones & Cribb were renowned cabinet makers in the Victorian era, ranging from Gothic to simple Arts and Crafts designs. They began as cabinet makers, c.1850 in Leeds as Marsh & Jones, they later expanded to Cavendish Square, London where Soho cabinetmaker, Henry Humphries Cribb sent his son to serve his apprenticeship. After he had finished his apprenticeship in c.1867 he was offered a partnership in the company leading to the new name of Marsh, Jones & Cribb.
J. Kendell & Co. were cabinet makers from Leeds, c. 1783 - 1840, and who’s craftsmanship is seen to be on a par with that of Gillows.
