A late 19th century Japanese hardwood Shibayama cabinet, Meiji period (1868-1912) with profusely carved and reticulated kacho-ga (birds and flowers) galleries and friezes surrounding the asymmetrical arrangement of open shelves, sliding panels, drawers and hinged doors painted with landscapes, the panels applied with mother of pearl and bone detail depicting foliage, birds and figures, above a carved openwork apron raised upon a curved scrolling base, H160, W94, D36cm.
