1966 Triton Cafe Racer, 750 cc. Registration number GFX 143D. Frame number L12457659601. Engine number 6T 025493.
A happy marriage of Triumph power and Norton roadholding, the Triton is rightly regarded by enthusiasts as the quintessential British sports special. This hybrid first emerged in the 1950s and continues to be built by professionals and amateurs alike. Dave Degens, proprietor of Dresda Autos, was one of the first special-builders to put the Triton into what might be termed 'limited production', and today this charismatic hybrid enjoys marque status.
This example, the third built by our vendor, started life as a 1959 Wide Line frame with 6T crankcases; from there he has built this amazing machine. The list of what he has undertaken is impressive from refurbishing the frame, Roadholder forks, new wheels, Grimeca 4LS front brake, Triumph conical hub, chronometric rev counter, magnetic speedo and custom made loom. The engine has a rebored T140 cylinder, reground T140 crank, new Amal Mk1 carbs, T140 five speed gearbox, Newby primary belt drive, Newby clutch. The Manx style petrol and oil tanks were hand made by John Williams of 'The Tank Shop' and painted Manx colours.
This machine encompasses what a Triton should be, the best of both Norton and Triumph with the odd bit of others thrown in for good measure.
It is being sold as although he can build it, his knee will no longer let him kick it over and he needs a starting road for this, not much help when you are out on a run!
Sold with the V5C, correctly stating the frame and engine numbers and a list of the parts involved in the build, together with a photographic record. As with all new builds Spicers recommend the new owner treats it with respect until it is run in.
