1956 Royal Enfield Clipper, Project, 250cc. Registration number not registered. Frame number 7765. Engine number 7765.
In 1953 Royal Enfield returned to the 250cc class with a new model: the Clipper. Every inch an Enfield, the new quarter-litre roadster was obviously out of the same mould as its larger siblings, featuring a cast-iron engine top-end, oil tank integral with the alloy crankcase, and a separate gearbox, the entire ensemble being housed in a scaled down version of the swinging-arm frame that had debuted on the Bullet in 1948. Alternator electrics and coil ignition were new departures.
This matching numbers project is listed in the Enfield archives as dating to 1956 and delivered to Bevan of Cardiff.
This partially completed project has paperwork related to spares purchased to the tune of some £450.
