A Victorian monocular brass microscope, by J.P. Cutts, Sutton & Son, c. 1850 - 1876, with brass hinged body, signed I.P. Cutts, Sutton & Son, Opticians to her Majesty, Sheffield, together with four lenses, mahogany case with specimen drawer.
I. P. Cutts, Sutton, and Sons, of 51, 53, 55 and 57 Division Street, Sheffield, were opticians, produced ship, portable and astronomical telescopes, also race, marine and opera glasses. Established by John Preston Cutts in 1822, his son/s joined in the early 1840's and Sutton joined about the same time. The business closed in 1887.
