There aren't too many modern cars which have achieved quite the level of success enjoyed by Mazda's MX-5. Launched in the UK in 1990, it quickly established itself as the benchmark affordable roadster and went on to be listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's best selling sports car.
In April 1998, the range was replaced by an all-new second-generation version. The pop-up headlamps were ditched in favour of fixed lights, the engines were made more powerful and the vinyl zip out rear window was upgraded to a proper glass item. Twin airbags were fitted.
SBW has got MOT back 2014 at 75,738 miles, rising slowly until 2020 at 89,312. It was then off the road and has the sills repaired, and recently it has received a full body respray as well as new hood. It now has just passed it MOT and is ready for the summer. Mileage today is 89319.
