An Edwardian silver presentation rose bowl, by Deakin Bros., Chester 1903, embossed and chased with floral panels and fluting, applied scroll border, diameter 20cm, height 14.5cm, 629gm.
Inscribed "The Major Chucken Loll Roy, prize, presented to the Calcutta Volunteer Rifles, by his son, Moni Loll Singh Roy, 1906".
The Calcutta Volunteer Rifles Corps was auxiliary infantry unit formed in 1863. It was reconstituted in March 1898 as the 1st Battalion Calcutta Volunteer Rifles and became the 5th Calcutta Battalion in 1917.
