VW introduced the T25 in 1979, the ‘third’ generation Volkswagen Transporter. It was a total redesign of the old Bay Window, being wider with larger windows and tailgate, and a new front style. Very little was carried over from the previous model. There was new suspension, which moved away from the torsion bar system. Powered by either a 1600cc 50bhp or 2000cc 70bhp air-cooled engine, the 1600cc diesel was introduced in 1981.
In 1985 the model was upgraded, including new exhaust systems, front suspension, sliding door locks, fuel injection systems, also rust protection was improved.
REG has only had three owners, the first is believed to had been an electrical firm, followed by Geoffrey Hill in 1991 and our vendor in 1994. He only used it for the family camping holiday to France every year, it then went back into his garage on blocks, so it has seen very little rain in its life. This is born out by the very good underbody that has not been welded. The engine has been upgraded with oversized pistons, a rebore and a new crankshaft, it has also had a 5 speed gearbox fitted. It has a lift up roof and rock n roll bed fitted, the mileage is only 74,269 miles.
The children have now left home and it is time for the van to start new adventures with another family
