A muzzle loading percussion punt shotgun, engraved Akrill Beverley to the barrel, Newton to the lock plate, barrel 172cm, ramrod.
Edward Newton of Grantham, gunsmith, died in 1765, his nephew, William Newton, continued the business.
Provenance; Owned by Snowden Slights (1830 - 1913), of East Cottingwith, Yorkshire, better known as the "Last of the Yorkshire Wildfowlers". See Snowden Slights, Wildfowler written by Sidney H. Smith.
After Slights death it was left with a horse bus service from Selby to York and never collected.
Sold with an insurance certificate from H. Esau Akrill, gunmaker of Beverley dated 1983 and family history.
